Pregnancy Symptoms

Pregnancy symptoms

We take you through the 6 common symptoms of pregnancy – from missed periods to positive tests and everything in between.

1. A Missed Period

If your cycle is regular, a missed period can be one of the best signs of pregnancy for women of childbearing age.
A late period is a possible pregnancy symptom, and it is worth taking a pregnancy test to confirm what may be happening. If you still don’t have a positive test we suggest you book in to see your doctor, who will likely request blood tests to find out exactly what’s going on.

2. Swollen Tender Breasts

When pregnant your breasts can become swollen, tender, and painful. This is due to the surge in hormones that occur during pregnancy. These should settle soon, and the tenderness should reduce in time.

3. Implantation Bleeding

Implantation bleeding is one of the first signs you will notice too if you do become pregnant. The bleeding occurs when a fertilised egg travels down the fallopian tube and attaches (implants) into the lining of the uterus. Only one third of women experience an implantation bleed when pregnant. The bleeding is generally pink or brown in colour and is not accompanied by cramps.

4. Fatigue/Tiredness

Feeling plain exhausted? In early pregnancy an increased level of the hormone progesterone can result in that feeling of fatigued and tiredness.

5. Morning Sickness

Unlike its name, morning sickness can occur at any point of the day. This regular nausea, queasiness and even vomiting can indicate pregnancy. Hold strong, you may have a few more weeks/months of this ahead of you still!

6. A Positive Pregnancy Test

It sounds like it’s time to celebrate! Call the doctor to confirm the addition to your family and start your prenatal care.
If your pregnancy test result is only light to begin with, it’s still considered a positive result. If you like, continue to test, and the control line should get darker and darker in the coming weeks.
