How do In-Stream Ovulation Tests work?

Fertility2Family’s In-Stream Ovulation Tests work by detecting your LH surge. The LH surge refers to the sudden increase in the luteinising hormone found in your urine before ovulation (the release of an egg). Ovulation predictor kits are the least invasive and most accurate way to detect your rise in LH.

When trying to conceive, timing intercourse around ovulation can increase the chances of conception. Our In-stream ovulation test will help take the stress out of figuring out when you are most fertile by pinpointing your peak fertile days.

Once the ovary releases an egg, there are about 6 to 24 hours for fertilisation to occur before the egg is no longer viable and dissolves; this is why detecting ovulation is essential to help increase your chances of falling pregnant.

The good news is that a viable sperm can live for about five days in your body, So if you have not had sex during the 24-hour ovulation window, there is still a chance to conceive if you had sex a few days before.

How to use the ovulation midstream tests

We offer detailed ovulation test instructions for every purchase to make you confident in using our products.

The ovulation test instructions cover all the FAQs about when you should begin testing for ovulation based on your menstrual cycle, how to read an in-stream test, and how accurate ovulation tests are.

These In-Stream Ovulation Tests are easy to use and less messy than an OPK or LH strip test. Just follow these four easy steps.

  1. Remove the In-stream ovulation test from the pouch
  2. Remove the cap from the LH test to expose the absorbent tip ( be careful not to touch the absorbent tip)
  3. Hold the absorbent tip for a few moments in your urine stream until it is thoroughly wet.
  4. Recap the In-stream ovulation test and lay the flat test surface with the window facing up.

Then wait for the results. It’s that easy to use a Fertility2Family ovulation test. The best time to take the test is between 10 am and 8 pm for the most accurate ovulation test results.

How to interpret results of the Ovulation Test Kits

Once you have performed the In-stream test, you will notice that the dye will start to travel up the device window. You can observe a positive ovulation result or LH surge in about 40 seconds.

A positive In-stream ovulation test is when you see two colour lines with the test line as dark or darker than the control line. A positive result means you will likely ovulate in the next 12 to 48 hours.

A negative ovulation test or no LH surge occurs when you see the test line is lighter than the control line or when one colour band appears on the control region. A complete reaction time of 10 minutes is required to confirm a negative result.

An invalid result is when the control line fails to appear, and the most likely reason is incorrect test performance or insufficient specimen volume. When you get an invalid result, you need to repeat a test with a new In-stream ovulation test.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a chance I may be ovulating when the test line is not as dark as the test line?

Ovulation predictor tests (OPK) is not the same as pregnancy tests and are only considered positive result when the test line is darker than the control line.

What Does a Faint Line on an Ovulation Test Mean?

A faint line on an ovulation test means that you’re either coming down or coming up to your LH surge. When you do the test, it is possible to see very light lines at any stage during your menstrual cycle. The test is only positive when the test line is darker than or equal to the control line.

Does the amount of liquids I consume affect the results?

In short, yes, when taking an In-stream ovulation test, drinking a large amount of liquid before performing the test will dilute the luteinising hormone in your urine. It is best to avoid drinking excess fluids 2 hours before doing the test for accurate results.

When is the best time to have intercourse after I see the positive result?

Ovulation occurs within 12 to 48 hours. It is your most fertile time, and it is highly recommended to have sexual intercourse during this time if you’re trying to conceive. However, having sex a few days before you ovulate also increases your chances of falling pregnant.

What if I get a positive result and have intercourse within my fertile days & fail to get pregnant?

Everyone is different, and many factors can affect your ability to get pregnant. It can take several months to conceive. Continue to use our easy home OPKS and keep testing for your most fertile window, and if you don’t achieve a successful pregnancy within 6 to 12 months, it is best to consult your doctor.

What supplements can I take to increase fertility?

There is a wide range of fertility supplements out there that can help assist you with ovulation and conception. We recommend Conceive Plus Women’s Ovulation & PCOS Support. This fertility supplement has been proven to regulate ovulation, ideal for PCOS, cycle and Women with hormone irregularities.
