30 x Ovulation Strip Tests
Let us cut to the chase. When trying to conceive, you want to know the best time to have sex to increase your pregnancy chances. Using our ovulation strip tests can help you predict your fertile window.
Usually, ovulation occurs in the middle of a menstrual cycle that starts the day you get your period. Once the ovary releases an egg, it lives for 12-24 hours; this is the window you have to conceive a child every month. But sperm can stay alive in the body for about five days, so if you have sex a few days before the 24-hour window, you might still get pregnant.
Fertility2Family ovulation tests have helped many women worldwide identify their fertile days over the past ten-plus years. So, consider buying an ovulation test pack to test as many times as you want. Our ovulation predictor kits are affordable, so you won’t spend as much as you normally would with your local chemist.
How do ovulation test strips predict your most fertile days?
Ovulation test strips have a similar design as the home pregnancy test kits, but instead of showing that you are pregnant, they help you identify the fertile window. This allows you to determine the best times of the month to have intercourse if you want to get pregnant.
The ovulation tests check for the luteinising hormone, which informs the ovaries that it’s time to release the egg.
Generally, the luteinising hormone (LH) is throughout the menstrual cycle, but the levels are usually low. However, when the egg follicle reaches a specific size and is ready to be released, the levels of the luteinising hormone increase significantly, causing an LH surge detected using ovulation test kits. Ovulation usually occurs 24 and 36 hours later after the LH surge. Note that the hormone surge occurs around the midpoint of your cycle.
You are already in the middle of the fertile window when you notice the LH surge. So if you are trying to get pregnant, you should have unprotected sex from 5 days before to 1 day after ovulation. Remember that the egg is only viable 24 hours after being released from the ovary. Having sperm in your body before the egg is released or on the ovulation day will increase the chances of getting pregnant. A good rule of thumb is to have sex two to three times 24 to 48 hours before the LH surge.
Ovulation test strips
Remember that ovulation test strips don’t test the viability of sperm or egg and don’t impact fertilisation. Also, there is no guarantee that you will conceive during sex during the fertile window because some factors may affect your capability to conceive. Be sure to talk to your healthcare provider to know your options.
How do you use ovulation predictors?
Different ovulation test strips have varying directions, so it’s crucial to check the results of your kit before testing. But, the procedure is typically straightforward, and it involves dipping the strips in urine samples and waiting for the results in a few minutes. Remember, you must test each day simultaneously until you notice an LH surge.
Knowing the days to take the ovulation test can be complex if you do not know the length of your cycle. So, before you start testing, the first thing to do is to review your menstrual cycle or check the details from an ovulation calendar. This will let you know when to start checking for an LH surge – You can test daily throughout your cycle to determine when your fertile window starts. Usually, this begins on the 10th or 11th day of your cycle (3-4 days before the estimated ovulation date) if you have a regular menstrual cycle. You must adjust the midpoint if your cycle is longer or shorter to catch the surge.
How to interpret the test results
Our ovulation predictors have two lines, the control and the test line. The control line checks if the test works correctly, while the test line confirms the results. If you notice that the test line is darker than the control one, it will mean that you’ll ovulate in the next 24-48 hours.
Note that you can get positive results for several days. If you don’t conceive, you should test a few days earlier in the following month. This will allow you to catch the start of the LH surge and increase the probability of conceiving.
Frequently asked questions
How do ovulation test strips detect the fertile window?
An ovulation test strip is designed to detect increasing levels of luteinising hormone in urine samples. This hormone is released in high quantities before ovulation occurs – it is the hormone that triggers one of the ovaries to release an egg. When you identify the luteinising hormone level peaks every month or an LH surge using the ovulation predictors kits (OPK), you can identify the most fertile days in your cycle.
When is the best time to start taking your ovulation tests?
Before you start doing your ovulation tests, knowing the length of your cycle is essential. This is the number of days from the first day you get your menstrual bleeding or period to the last day before the bleeding starts. You will need to think back or check any records you might have (e.g., in menstrual cycle apps) to determine the length of your cycle. If you have a regular cycle the fertile window knowing the fertile window will not be difficult. This does not mean women with irregular cycles cannot identify their fertile days. The chances are that they’ll need to do more ovulation tests, preferably twice a day, to know when they ovulate.
When is the ideal time of the day to conduct ovulation tests?
The key to getting reliable results whenever you use an ovulation test strip is to know the right time to test. When taking pregnancy tests, it’s recommended that you do the test early in the morning. However, you cannot do the same when using ovulation predictor kits.
The best time to collect your urine sample for the ovulation test is early to mid-afternoon, and this is the time when the levels of luteinising hormone in your urine are the highest. If you test early in the morning, you will likely miss the LH surge since the hormone is usually low.
Why should I restrict my fluid intake before collecting a urine sample for the ovulation test?
Before your ovulation test, you are expected to avoid taking too much fluid for about two hours. This ensures that the urine sample you collect is concentrated, making it easy to detect an LH surge. If you use diluted urine, you will miss your LH surge.
Why am I ovulating late?
The length of menstrual cycles varies from one woman to another, but most women get ovulation 14 days before their periods. This means that if you have a 28-day cycle, you will ovulate around the 14th day. If your cycle is 30 days long, you will likely ovulate around the 16th day. Ovulation after the 21st day of the cycle is known as late ovulation. Late ovulation can occur due to an illness, hormones, general health issues, being overweight or underweight, stress, genetic issues, over-exercising and ovarian problems like polycystic ovaries.
Are ovulation test strips accurate?
The ovulation test strips Fertility2Family provide are approximately 99% accurate at detecting an LH surge. So, you can be sure you’ll get reliable results when you use the ovulation predictor as instructed. However, it’s important to remember that these tests are meant for detecting LH surges, and sometimes the ovaries may not release an egg if you have a particular health problem. So if you keep getting your LH surge but think you’re not ovulating as expected, you should consider seeing a health care provider.
