Does a Faint Ovulation Test Mean Your LH Is Low?
A faint OPK line does not tell you that your blood LH is low. Home ovulation tests look for LH in urine and apply the positive rule built into that particular device. A pathology test measures LH in serum and is interpreted against the laboratory’s own reference interval, cycle stage and clinical reason for testing.
This distinction matters because LH is released in pulses. The Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia notes that a single serum result can be misleading, while reference intervals also depend on the assay, age and stage of the menstrual cycle. There is therefore no reliable way to convert the darkness of an OPK line into a blood LH value.

Prolactin, breastfeeding and other hormone changes
Prolactin is another part of the picture. High prolactin can interfere with ovulation and menstrual regularity. During frequent breastfeeding, prolactin rises as part of normal physiology and can temporarily suppress the hormones that trigger ovulation, so a different cycle pattern after birth does not automatically mean something needs to be “boosted”.
