Editorial and Medical Review Policy

When you are working out when to test, tracking your cycle or looking for answers about fertility, you need information you can understand and check.

Fertility2Family publishes health information for Australian readers. This policy explains who writes and reviews our articles, how we check evidence and what happens when information changes.

Who writes and reviews our articles

The Fertility2Family Editorial Team writes our health articles. Each article starts with a reader's question and uses plain Australian English to explain the answer and any medical terms.

Evan Kurzyp, RN is our medical reviewer. Articles labelled “Medically reviewed by Evan Kurzyp” identify the content he has reviewed. His profile lists his nursing qualifications, registration number and role.

What medical review checks

Depending on the article, Evan checks the health information against the evidence it cites. His review can cover:

  • Accuracy and evidence: he checks source support for health statements and the population, outcome and timeframe behind each statistic.
  • Australian healthcare: he checks information about medicines, testing, referrals and care against relevant Australian guidance.
  • Uncertainty: he checks that the wording reflects the strength and limits of the evidence.
  • Home testing: he checks explanations of test timing, use, results and limitations against the relevant product instructions and evidence.
  • Safety: he checks that warning symptoms, next steps and the need for individual assessment are clear.
  • Readability: he checks that readers can understand the information without confusing a possible explanation with a diagnosis or treatment recommendation.

We correct or remove unsupported claims before approving an article.

How we choose and reference evidence

We generally start with Australian guidance for questions about local healthcare, medicines, pregnancy care, fertility referrals and therapeutic goods.

Our sources include Healthdirect Australia, Pregnancy, Birth and Baby, Better Health Channel, the Therapeutic Goods Administration, the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, Jean Hailes for Women's Health and Your Fertility.

We also use systematic reviews, peer-reviewed studies and international guidance to answer research questions. These sources include Cochrane, the World Health Organization, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.

We read the source and check its date, relevance, study population, methods, findings and limitations. We check whether newer guidance has replaced it and whether other reliable evidence supports the finding. We use original studies for study findings and clinical guidance or systematic reviews to put those findings in context.

When studies disagree or evidence is limited, we explain what remains uncertain. We distinguish an association from evidence that one factor causes another, and avoid applying findings to people or circumstances the research did not study.

References identify the sources behind the article's health statements and link to the original material. Product instructions support statements about using that product. Retailer information can establish a price, but is not clinical evidence.

Products and commercial interests

Fertility2Family is an Australian-owned fertility and home testing business based in Hobart, Tasmania. We have supplied products across Australia since 2009. Evan is also a co-owner of the business.

We sell some of the products discussed in our articles. Product links appear when they help answer the reader's question, not because every reader needs to buy a product.

The products we sell do not determine our health information or conclusions. We do not publish unsupported health claims to encourage a purchase, and we do not accept sponsored health content. Suppliers and manufacturers cannot pay to control an article's medical information.

We do not state or imply that buying a home fertility product will cause ovulation, improve fertility, guarantee conception or guarantee a healthy pregnancy.

Manufacturer documentation explains a product's intended use and instructions. We do not treat it as independent evidence that the product improves fertility or the chance of pregnancy.

TGA and ARTG information

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) regulates therapeutic goods in Australia and maintains the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG).

Fertility2Family is the sponsor named in ARTG entry 317593 for clinical chemistry hormone in vitro diagnostic devices. This entry covers our ovulation and pregnancy tests. Our other products are included in the ARTG under their own entries.

ARTG inclusion does not mean the TGA endorses a product. We describe products as “included in the ARTG”. Product claims must match the relevant product information, supporting evidence and Australian advertising requirements.

Always follow the directions for use supplied with your test. Our product instructions provide information about using individual products.

Review dates and updates

Reviewed articles name the medical reviewer.

We schedule each medically reviewed article for another review within 12 months. We check articles sooner when Australian guidance, research, safety information, product instructions or a cited source changes, or when a reader reports a possible error.

Changes that affect medical advice, safety information or the interpretation of results return for review before publication. A spelling or layout change does not count as a new medical review.

Corrections and reader feedback

Please tell us when something seems wrong, outdated or unclear.

Email info@fertility2family.com.au with the page link and the statement you would like us to check. A supporting source is welcome, but you do not need to research the issue for us.

We aim to acknowledge your message within one business day and reply with our findings within five business days. Some reports require further checks of the research, guidance or product records.

We correct confirmed errors. Please leave out personal health details that are not needed to identify the issue with the article.

General information and personal medical care

Our articles explain fertility and pregnancy topics, home testing and questions you can discuss with a health professional. They do not assess your symptoms, confirm your pregnancy, diagnose a condition or tell you which treatment to use.

For advice about your own circumstances, speak with your GP, pharmacist, midwife or fertility specialist. For health advice in Australia, call Healthdirect on 1800 022 222. In a medical emergency, call 000.
